Before he was Dr. Gary, he was teenage magician Erdini and performed magic at children’s birthday parties and libraries in his hometown, Toronto, Canada. Despite being booked nearly every weekend, Erdini retired at age 16. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in clinical psychology (transforming into Dr. Gary) and worked as a child psychologist for over thirty years. Fifty years after Erdini retired some of Erdini’s magic props were re-discovered in Dr. Gary’s closet and Dr. Gary, Doctor of Magic came to life, performing his first show one year later at a church breakfast. Since then, Dr. Gary has performed in a variety of venues, including local comedy clubs and children’s theater. Dr. Gary also began taking comedy classes and graduated from programs at the Fallout Theater and the Hideout Theater. In addition to hosting comedy shows, Dr. Gary has performed improv comedy in several Austin theaters and The Overtime Theater in San Antonio. Dr. Gary hosts and performs in the monthly magic/improv show, MagicProv: The Mashup, at the Fallout Theater and performs weekly in an improv show for kids, Story Starts at Coldtowne Theater.
